Billing and Payments
How pricing works, when cards are charged, and what to check when a payment fails.
KiteCourier uses a two-step payment flow so successful mail is what gets charged.
Pricing basics
Your letter cost depends on:
- the USPS Certified Mail base rate,
- included pages versus additional pages,
- print settings such as single-sided or double-sided output, and
- optional services such as return receipt.
How payment processing works
- Authorization: the card is authorized for the expected total when you submit the letter.
- Capture: the charge is captured after the letter is accepted for mailing.
- Release or refund: if the letter cannot be sent, or you cancel an eligible letter, the authorization is released or refunded automatically.
Canceled letters
Eligible single letters can be canceled from the Letters page for 3 hours after they are created. When cancellation succeeds, KiteCourier starts the refund automatically. Your bank may still take a few business days to show the credit.
Troubleshoot payment failures
Card declined
- Check available balance or credit.
- Confirm the card is not expired.
- Verify your bank did not block the transaction.
- Retry with another payment method if needed.
Invalid card details
- Re-enter the card number carefully.
- Confirm expiration date and CVV.
- Make sure the billing ZIP code matches the card record.
Unexpected processing error
- Wait about a minute before retrying.
- Check whether the charge already appears on the statement.
- Refresh the page and try again.
Accepted payment methods
KiteCourier accepts major credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
